The St Columban's Concert Band Spectacular is an annual music competition that is held at St Columban's College in Caboolture. It includes a range of categories for both primary and high school students. Johan Deecke and myself recorded the audio of two day event for the purpose of each school that participated to have a digital copy of their students' performances.
For the event we were stationed in a room of to the side of the hall as to visually monitor the performance while also have audio isolation to better monitor the what was being recorded. The performance was captured using a pair of KM184s in a NOS stereo configuration and a pair of DPA1100s in a wide stereo A-B configuration. These were run through a Focusrite interface connected to a Macbook Pro running Pro Tools. All tracks were edited in between acts in accordance with 4MBS classical recording standards. These tracks were later mixed with minimal processing and delivered as 24bit, 48kHz WAV files. For more information on our recording and mixing process check out my blog HERE.
